October is behind us. The foliage has given way to bare branches; the fields are striped and plowed under in preparation for next year's crops. The Halloween festivities will be the topic of conversation for a couple of weeks while the zombies return to their graves, the jack- o-lanterns become tired and warn and the witches retreat to their well hidden abodes to dream of next years mischief. Ghosts, as we all know, don't just make their presence known at Halloween. They will be around all year to keep us on our toes. Meanwhile, yet another holiday looms on the horizon, one that will continue to make good use of our pumpkins. And beyond that is Christmas.

It's time to really start planning now because it will be here before you know it! We at Yankee Harvest have always advocated thinking and planning ahead. It helps to ease the tension that can build around the holiday season and really, with all of today's alternatives, there is little reason to let all the necessary preparations (and not so necessary) get the best of us.

Yankee Grocery, our newest place to shop, has aisles full of tasty treats. Yankee Halloween has survived yet another frantic season! Thank you to all of our loyal customers and diehard pumpkin carvers out there who have kept us abreast of their wants needs and desires. We hope to continue to find new and appropriate items for our dusty graveside shelves, with most items being available 365 days a year.

So now we take a deep breath, sleep late on Saturday morning, and plan our attack for November and December. Hope you'll come along for the ride. It promises to be interesting. In the meantime, don't rule out Yankee Halloween as a holiday shopping place. We are busy working on our line of gift baskets for this holiday season. Included will be a wonderful selection using a variety of Yankee Grocery delicacies ... American Fish Fry, Happy Hacienda, Old Orchard, Autumn Harvest Bread Bowls and two marvelous soap collections ... Summer Breeze Soap Basket and Winter's Eve Soap Collection. In addition there will be two smaller baskets for the man of the house, NFL Sunday and AFL Sunday, a rather nice way to spice up snack time while watching that all important game. Our regular collections are always available and are ideal for holiday giving. Keep in mind...Mr. Baker's collections ... there are three in all ... Sundrops Soaps Cranberry Collection, and all of the various collections that we have put together for your shopping ease. Of course, you can always make your own baskets. Just order on-line or give us a call and we can supply you with many gift ideas. Specialty gift baskets are available December 1st through December 20th. After that, it will be the luck of the draw and the good will of the post office.

Speaking of post office, once again, please remember to order early. Everyone works hard around this time of the year to keep the flow going and keep one's sanity in the meantime. All of our parcel delivery outfits are put to the task right up until the very end, and company's like ours do their very best to assure your confidence and provide you with peace of mind when ordering. MURPHY is out there waiting. Don't let him ruin your holiday. Get your shopping done, get those orders out and when the day finally arrives, you will breathe easier and enjoy the moment. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND: Orders placed after December 18th cannot be guaranteed to arrive by Christmas, regardless of method of shipment.

As Thanksgiving approaches we begin planning our special turkey dinner. Usually the meal remains the same from year to year, adding or deleting one or two items to make way for a new treat. A day or two is spent occupied in the kitchen, attending to every detail. How much time is spent, however, preparing dinner on Wednesday night, or breakfast on Friday morning especially if you have overnight guests? Here is a meal that will fit the bill morning, noon or night. Prepare ahead and serve with coffee bread, bacon or sausage and fresh fruit, or, with salad and quick bread or warm rolls. Place in the oven when you are ready and enjoy a meal that is as good for breakfast as it is for supper. Easy preparation, easy clean up ... and enough time left over to launch "Turkey Day" with gusto!

• 1 red bell pepper, chopped
• 3 cups cooked, mashed russet or Idaho potatoes
• 1 green bell pepper, chopped
• 1/2 cup good Romano cheese
• 1 cup finely chopped onion
• 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley
• 1-1/2 cups sliced mushrooms
• 1/2 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
• 4 Tbsp. Olive oil
• 1/4 cup sliced black olives
• 8 large eggs
