Things have been pretty busy at Yankee Grocery this month... three (3) new products ready to go. Our first new product is also from Vermont. We have tasted a couple of these and we think you will love them as much as we did. From Halliday's Harvest Barn come eight (8) tempting and absolutely delicious Farmhouse Cheesecake Mixes that are easy to make, no bake, and make an elegant presentation for any occasion. If you have ever gone to school, or otherwise visited New Haven, Connecticut, no doubt you have heard of Archie Moore's. If you are into carving, and we know that you are out there, these creative and unique patterns are a 'must' for your collection. Qwigglegel Body Part Molds

One of the new products on Yankee Grocery was a Farmhouse Cheesecake Mix called Tiramisu. If you have never heard of, or tasted this rich, decadent desert, you are certainly in for a special treat. This wonderful dish has its origins in Italy (of course) and is not actually a cheesecake, but a creamy dish made with espresso and marscopone cheese (Italian cream cheese). The following is our adaptation of Tiramisu using Halliday's Harvest Barn's Farmhouse Cheesecake Mix, an adaptation based on many, many occasions of having this desert in the finest Italian Restaurants locally.

TIRAMISU: YANKEE HARVEST STYLE

Two packages of Halliday's Harvest Barn's Tiramisu
Two packages of ladyfingers, about 30 pieces
Three milk chocolate bars, refrigerate until chilled
2 Tablespoons cocoa
1/2 to 1 cup Kalhua or other good coffee liqueur

For the Farmhouse Tiramisu you will need:
2-eight and 2-three ounce
packages of cream cheese
One pint of fresh whipping cream... whipped

In a 9 x 13 glass dish (Pyrex or corningware) place one layer of ladyfingers, about half or 15 pieces. Sprinkle generously with Kalhua until well soaked. Using half of the Tiramisu mixture spread evenly over the ladyfingers and pat down gently. Repeat with the next layer of ladyfingers, using all that remains. Again, sprinkle generously with Kalhua and spread remaining Tiramisu mixture on top.

Over the Tiramisu sprinkle the cocoa. Using a vegetable peeler, peel away at the long side of the candy bars, working quickly so they won't melt. Layer over the desert. Chill the Tiramisu for two or three hours before serving. This desert is rich and ever so yummy.

It is best served after a lighter meal...perhaps a chicken dish and broccoli drizzled with good olive oil and fresh garlic with a hint of fresh squeezed lemon. Start with a very nice antipasto... springs greens, marinated vegetables, assorted olives, mozzarella and provolone cheese, salami and prosciutto.

Two years ago, on this very day, we were, like so many others, glued to our television sets. We watched in horror and disbelief as our country was assaulted and thousands of innocent people died while thousands of other lives would be forever changed. Flags flew in greater numbers than ever before for months after that fateful day.

One question ...where have all the flags gone...? If you don't own one, go get one. If you have one, fly it with pride. Don't let the passage of time diminish what happened on 9/11.

And, if you have a flag carving pattern, use it this year and every year to light up your jack-o-lanterns. Traditionally, Halloween is the year's darkest, scariest night. If everyone carved a flag into his or her favorite pumpkin, it would become the year's brightest and most visible, night. In this post 9/11 world, let's make a new tradition of lighting our Flag on October 31st. Let's put one on every doorstep.

A flag pattern is free to download on Yankee Halloween.com and there are several versions and variations in some of the Pumpkin Masters carving books. What a nice tradition for you to hand down to your children...!!!

That's it for this month. We've gotten our roller skates out of storage and blown off the dust AND OILED UP THE WHEELS. This is where the fun begins...!!!
